Lexile Shmexile

Aeden came home this week with the astounding news that he has a lexile of 1292.  He had grown by almost 150 points this year.  Apparently he can comprehend text difficulty at 10th thru 12th grade levels.

We are very proud and astounded...with good reason.  We had the following conversation less than 10 minutes ago.

A: Can I have a cranberry egg?

C: A what?

A: a canberry egg?

C: A what?

A: You know, a care bear egg.

E: I don't think you should be eating care bear eggs.

A: What are they called?

E: Why don't you look at the package?

A: I can't read it, it is in cursive...cudbury egg?

(Sigh) Perhaps the boy should work on functional print.
