End of Fifth Grade

Aeden ended Fifth grade by making Principal's List for the second quarter in a row.  Principal's list is earned when you make straight As.

He also had the first report card we can remember without any "needs improvement" in the behavior area (usually Aeden has a plan that is not on the teacher's agenda. :p).

To top off the year he was one of the top scorers on a math placement test and will be taking 7th Grade MATH next year!

We are so very proud of Aeden!

Gifted

Now that we have moved back to AZ, Aeden's teachers have recognized that he is a unique individual.  At the beginning of the year they asked if he had ever been tested for gifted, to which we sadly said "No".  Although, we have always thought that he might be gifted.

He was then put on the list and was administered the gifted test (AZ standard test) in April.

To qualify for gifted services you must receive a 97% in an area.  In some cases you may receive a 95% or 96% in more than one area and with teacher recommendation receive services, but the general rule is a 97% = gifted services.

Arizona has defined the three reasoning areas as:
· Verbal reasoning: how well a student can solve problems using words,
· Quantitative reasoning: how well a student can solve problems using mathematical concepts,
· Nonverbal reasoning: how well a student can solve problems using shapes and figures and the   ability in spatial and abstract thinking.  (http://www.arizonagifted.org/giftedness/faqgifted.aspx)

His results came back as follows:

Verbal = 69% (a very average score)

Quantitative = 99% (a very not average score)

Non-verbal = 99% (a very not average score)

This explains SO much! :)
