Aeden the toothless wonder

The tooth fairy brought Aeden a new green light-up toothbrush, a dollar coin, a quarter and a shiny new 2006 penny. ;)

MIL gave Aeden $5 after asking Aeden how much the tooth was worth and she talked him down from his original $20. :)

First Lost Tooth!

Aeden lost his first tooth! Don't let the pictures fool you, he was greatly traumatized and cried...a lot! He wiggled and wiggled and wiggled it, mainly to gross me out and then all of a sudden it just popped out. He was quite traumatized (I escaped the house but heard about the trauma from semi-reliable sources {grin}) and needed two ice packs and a popsicle to get over it.

Merry Christmas!

Looks like Aeden found the hidden decoration!

What does the tooth fairy bring?

We asked Aeden (who has two loose bottom teeth, not terribly loose but he is becoming more aware of them) what the tooth fairy does and brings.

Apparently she brings a penny!

Woohoo!

Christmas songs

I really have to videotape Aeden singing Christmas songs it is too cute (b/c of his speech delay, shame on me!).

One that he sings is "have a holly dolly Christmas..."

Straws

We were at Starbuck's the other day and Aeden got a tall, iced vanilla cream, in a cold cup with whip. He has discovered he gets more whip cream in a cold cup and it doesn't melt. ;)

So he was using his fingers to scoop out the whip and I merely suggested that he use his straw to do it. His response:

{while looking at me like I am a complete and utter idiot}

"Straws are for drinking. Do I look like I am drinking?!"

Sense of Humor

Okay, I had taken the plug thingy out of the sink in the bathroom b/c it is broken and it inhibits the drainage of water. I bought a replacement one, but um, yeah it isn't the right size.
So we had an open drain in the bathroom, stupid I know.

I get up Thursday morning to find Aeden at the sink with a blue water bottle over the drain hole, filling the water bottle with water.

I asked what he is doing, he says getting the ball out of the drain. I look (under the water bottle btw) and sure enough one of his bouncy balls was just the right size.

After much wiggling, knife yeilding (no one was injured!!) and such the ball was extracted from the drain and the broken insert thing was placed back in. ;)

Fast forward to after school, Aeden is again bouncing his ball through the hallway. It makes a lovely, loud, echoy noise.

Then he stops and says, "Mommy the ball bounced into the toilet"

My heart stopped. I don't do toilets. I responded that he better stick his hand down there and get it then.

His response: "Just joking" {mad giggling}

Ugh! Who gave him that sense of humor, rotten child.

Philosophical Aeden

Aeden has a ton of sight words on the fridge. They were divided with the ones he knows on the freezer and the ones he didn't know on the fridge door.

This week he spent a lot of time moving them all to the fridge door and packing them together.

He then used three words to make a sentence "I am here".

We were, of course, duly impressed.

Today Eric pointed out that Aeden has changed his sentence to "Am I here".

ROFL! Mr. philosophical.

I know my numbers!

In Sam's Club today they had one of those big bowl shaped donation things where you put the coin in the side and it spins down.

Over it was a sign that said something to the effect of "Last year the foundation raised $12,944."

Eric read the sign to Aeden and stopped before saying the number, he then asked Aeden what number it was.

Aeden then read it CORRECTLY!! He read it as twelve thousand nine hundred forty-four without any hesitation. :D

Of course he didn't say dollars. :P But even Eric was impressed that Aeden knew the correct way of saying it instead of just naming the numbers.

When asked Aeden says "I know my numbers". ;)

Articulation

We had a conference with Aeden's teacher and the speech pathologist at his school. They haven't finished all of the testing yet, but it looks like his main (only) issue is articulation.

Apparently his articulation level is that of a child who is 3 years 0 months old.

This isn't really surprising to us and we are moving forward with the process to get him services and an IEP. I just hope it moves quickly.

Cheater Cheater

If someone cheats, or if Aeden thinks someone cheats he says:

"Cheater, cheater, transformer eater!" ;)

66 cents

Today he searched all over the house for change. He found 1 quarter, 1 dime, 6 pennies, and a nickle. He added it up by himself and calculated that he had 46 cents.

The money was placed in a baggy and put in his lunchbox. He ate all his lunch today but decided to save his money to buy some big treat.

So we get in the car and he finds two of the dimes he had left in the door. In the time it would take you or I to calculate the total amount he has, Aeden pipes up and tells me that he now has 66 cents.

He calculated it that fast.

Goal!

Aeden scored his first (and only) goal at the game yesterday!!!

This probably isn't that big of a deal, but if you could see Aeden on the field, five steps behind everyone else, rarely facing the direction of the goal, watching butterflies and picking grass, you would understand how awesome this is. :)

Apparently he scored early and then got too hot and decided to lollygag and not focus anymore. :P I wasn't there so only saw video, and only watched up to the goal. Very cool! He was quite excited. :D

First Day of Kindergarten

Aeden's first day of Kindergarten! Also the first day that he has ever gone to school with a smile on his face. I think riding the bus (and leaving mom instead of vice versa) really helped him.

Time Zones

Aeden apparently does a lot of deep thinking way in the backseat by himself. Today he told us to stop talking because he had to say his question out loud. Thinking he was going to ask us something we stopped talking.

However all we heard was him saying stuff like "6 and then 7 and then 8 and then 9". So Eric started talking again, but I shushed him. (heh)

Then Aeden pipes up "Mommy when it is 9:00 here it is 6:00 at Tigtigs and Papa's house, and when it is 6:00 here it is 3:00 at Tigtigs house and I awake but Tigtigs is still sleeping."

This kid blows me away.

Feelings

Mommy I hate you...

{slight pause}

And I still love you {said in his angry voice}.

Yuppy Boy

Eric tells me I am turning Aeden into a little yuppy boy. We went to Starbucks today and Eric discovered what Aeden's drink of choice is:

A tall iced vanilla cream in a hot cup. ;)

Ready for College

Aeden told us today that he doesn't want to go to Kindergarten. He is ready for College instead!! lol

He was quite disappointed when we explained that he needed to be able to read a tad bit better, and do more sophisticated math. We also told him {naughty parents} that it wasn't up to Mommy and Daddy to give him permission to go to college at age 5, but that it was up to his teachers. So he will need to be sure and show his teacher everything he knows and listen real hard. ;)

Presents!

Happy Birthday from Uncle Neil and Aunt Jessie. They certainly know the key to this boy's heart! :D

Library Card

Aeden got his library card on Monday. He was thrilled to borrow two videos and two books (I made the rule that for every video he had to borrow a book).

Of course afterwards he thought we should go shopping since the library gave him a new giftcard. :P I had a bit of explaining to do there. He seems to think all plastic cards = gift cards = money!

Five year olds

Aeden came up to me today and told me the towel hanging in the bathroom that we use to dry our hands on "smells like daddy's stinky feet". Hee!

Oh and when I asked if I could try a piece of his candy he very generously agreed and offered me my choice!.

Another one, this morning I was laying down on the couch and Aeden asked me to help him with something on a video game. I told him no, I had a headache and didn't want to look at video games and that he should figure it out himself. His response: "I am only a little 5-year-old."

Happy 5th Birthday

Every pirate needs a treasure chest.

When it is your birthday at school you get a happy birthday crown. Since Aeden's birthday is in July he didn't get a crown at preschool so he insisted that we make one for him. He then wore it out to the "carnival" and miniature golfing.

Bad Parents

Aeden just tromped down here and told Eric he was a bad parent.

Eric told him that is one (we do the 123 magic), Aeden mumbled under his breath that Eric was a bad parent.

Eric said "What is that?"

Aeden said "I love you daddy"

5 year checkup

Aeden had his five year physical today. He got 3 shots, but supposedly won't need anymore until he is 15.

He was big and brave and very, very well-behaved*. He showed them how smart he is. :D

They did a vision test with both eyes open, just reading an eye chart, and he has 20/30 vision. Not sure how reliable that method was though. {frown} It was cute when they got to the line he couldn't read he turned and asked me what it said. :D

His weight is 37.25 lbs, and his height is 41.5 inches.

*He used all the good behavior up for his because by the time we got to mine there was only a lot of him saying "I am getting cranky!"

Cattoons

Aeden came out of his playroom yesterday to show me his "cattoons" that he found. He had one on each arm, and one on each knee.

They are temporary tatoos.

a castle to call his own.

Teamwork

Eric is working late so I gave Aeden his dinner. He knows that after dinner he has to get all his checks (chores) done. Generally he has to do them all by himself, unless one of us played with him or something then we will help him clean up that part. Today he played by himself. As I handed him his plate he says the following:

"Mommy I have a lot of pretend food in my bed. Will you help me clean it up? Cause I like teamwork. Daddy no like teamwork, because he makes me clean it up by myself" {all said with a cute impish grin on his face}

When I grow up...

Basically Aeden wants to be a jack-of-all-trades, he has said he wants to have every career that is represented in a deck of Old Maid, well except the Old Maid. :P

Most recent though: ArtistLast week he did say he wants to be an artist like daddy, but he also said he was already a better artist then daddy. Hmmm, no deficiency in self-esteem/ego here. :P

Happy Mother's Day

Aeden decided I needed a "medium-size vase" so Eric took him and got me one for Mother's Day.

At age 30

On the way to preschool Aeden asked me what he was going to do when he is thirty.

I told him I didn't know, and asked him he wants to do when he is thirty.

His response was: "I want to do homework and play games and stay up late and go to bed at 3"

Boiling the appetite

I made a fat free white bread last night and used it to make Aeden a pbj sandwich. Apparently he wasn't fond of the sandwich and refused to eat it. So I offered him some deli-sliced turkey, which he usually loves. Again, he had rude comments to say about it (I have to assume they were rude as I actually didn't understand what he said :P).

When I wouldn't give him anything else he stomped away saying "You give me yucky things. Mommy you boil my appetite. Now you need to give me candy."

Charming

Eric and Aeden were telling secrets this morning and when I asked Aeden what they were talking about he stopped, grinned and said "I just talking about how much I love you".

No French Fries

Aeden has stopped ordering happy meals. He doesn't want the toy, and he doesn't want the french fries. Instead he orders chicken and a hamburger.

The reason he doesn't want french fries is he doesn't like potatos, and french fries are made from potatoes.

He refuses to believe however that potato chips are also made from potatos, and thus continues to include them in his diet when allowed. :P

100 pennies

Happy Easter!

Aeden managed to collect 100 pennies (with the help of family!) and everyone knows what 100 pennies equal......$1!

Introductions

Whenever Aeden introduces himself (usually by going up to random strangers who have no interest in talking to him) he says:

"Hi, I Aeden. I four. Mommy is 30. Daddy is 30 too."

heh, and sometimes he follows that up with "How old are you?" or "Are you 30 too?".

Ugly children

January 21, 2006

Aeden has a song he sings from a Dr. Jean CD we have. I will play out the last verse for you, but it starts with Saturday and each verse adds a day until the last one that has all the days.
____
Saturday pizza

Friday hot dog

Thursday ice cream

Wednesday Zoup

Tuesday snap beans

Monday peanut butter

Sunday chicken

All you lucky children, but that's okay...

Except it sounds like Aeden says "all you ugly children, it's okay".

Preschool Drop-off problems

January 13, 2006

Aeden has been in preschool since September. Every time I drop him off he has a cow, "Mommy stay with me, stay mommy" and then proceeds to cling to me, block the door and a teacher or the parent helper has to literally pick him up and hold him so I can leave. It is getting old, really old. I think there was maybe one month (November, I think) where he didn't do that, where he said bye mommy and let me leave.

Today he told me that he doesn't plan on going to Kindergarten becasue he doesn't want to leave mommy. Now while that is sweet and all, yeah, it is not going to work.

I tried bribing him saying if he was a big boy and told mommy, "Bye love you" when I said I had to go then I would take him on a date. The idea sounded good to him until time for me to actually leave. I am thinking of starting another chart where every time he says bye and lets me leave w/o contributing to the farmlife population he will get a star and after a certain amount we will have a Mommy/Aeden date. Not sure how well this will work and I haven't had a talk with Eric yet either.

No money!

January 8, 2006

Poor Aeden. At Christmas he received several gift cards in Christmas cards. Then his godparents gave him a card with $5 in it. He ignored the card and so they spent time teaching him (explaining) that cards are good, they usually have money in them. Great right?

Well, when we got back from AZ, there was a card waiting for Aeden. It was a lovely thank you card from his teacher. Sadly (and thankfully we were home), Aeden tore into that card as fast as he could and was totally disappointed when as he puts it "There's no money!".

Six Little Daddies

January 8, 2006

Okay, so everyone knows the song Aeden sings called "Six Little Ducks". On the plane the other day, Aeden totally on the fly, started being silly and sang it a different way.

Original:
Six little ducks went out one day, big ones, little ones, square ones too.
But the one little duck with the feathers on his back, he led the others with a quack, quack, quack.
He led the others with a quack, quack, quack.

Aeden's modification:
Six little Daddies went out one day, big ones, little ones, square ones too.
But the one little daddy with the feathers on his back, he led the others with a spanking, with a spanking, with a spanking.
He led the others witha spanking, with a spanking, with a spanking.

Inbisible Aeden

January 8, 2006

We have a new person in our house, he is quite fast (he can fly to AZ and back to NY in the blink of an eye). He also enjoys egg salad, and candy, and playing.

Oh and he loves to have his own plate of food, his own color when playing sorry, and his own hand of UNO.

His name is "Other Aeden" or sometimes "New one Aeden". He is Aeden's inbisible friend.
He is also the one who doesn't put his plate away, or clean-up and who does all the naughty things.
