New Year's Eve 2009

Happy New Year's Eve! To celebrate I made the boy make his own dinner/lunch/meal, with guidance. He made a cheese omelet in a bag.

Scrambling the eggs
Dicing the cheese
Thinking...do I use a fork or a spoon? Aeden chose spoon!

Hockey Game

Aeden scored a free ticket to the local AHL hockey game as a library reading incentive. We also managed to get discounted tickets to go with him. The seats were pretty good and the game was fun.

Aeden down on the ice trying to get a better view.

Waving his hands trying to get a towel thrown towards him.

We scored a dominos pizza coupon, a hockey puck (from a nice kid behind us) and a towel that bounced off my head.
Aeden even made up a cheer for the team.

Gingerbread 2009

We did our annual "gingerbread" house creating the day after Christmas. We cheat and use graham crackers.

Working hard and creatively.

The finished houses:
Chrisi's igloo

Eric's winter wonderland
Aeden's house...aka when gingerbread men attack?

Merry Christmas 2009

Merry Christmas!
We hope you have a wonderful holiday season and a fantastic New Year!

We made gingerbread men (and one reindeer) for Santa this year.

Aeden decorated them with mini-chocolate chips.
Then for the first time ever, Aeden put the cookie sheet in the oven.

Aeden was eagerly waiting the chance to come downstairs Christmas morning. He had to wait until 8 am!

Checking to see if Schmutzli visited...Aeden seems to have escaped another year.

Seeing what Santa brought in the stocking...
and what Santa hid in the train set!
Laughing because Santa hid Aeden's presents behind the wood!
Hugging Daddy because he got Aeden a plush Mario Star.
Chrisi using her super cool spy lens. It is going to take some practice!
Eric hid the pickle this year and Aeden found it. Sneaky boy!

Experiments: Orange Juice

Aeden saw the orange juice carton and decided he wanted to see if you could really stick a straw in the orange and drink the juice out.

(click through to the blog to watch a video of his experiment)

After the video ended Aeden suggested that it might work better if we microwaved it. The orange was put in the microwave for 15 seconds, but it did not make any impact on the amount of juice extracted with the straw.

Snow Day!

The first snow day of the school year!

Frosty was too heavyset to fit into his hat and scarf so he is just holding them now.

The day called for shoveling a path, making a snowman, sledding, watching the New Star Trek, eating junk food, and putting together a difficult lego holiday house. Fun day!

Modeling Clay

Tigtigs sent Aeden some real, honest-to-goodness modeling clay for his advent calendar. Here is actual proof that we let him use it, and in the living room no less!

Overheard--Fortune Cookies

Aeden is learning about China in school. Apparently the only thing he has mentioned so far is fortune cookies. We went out and bought a box and now he is eating as many fortune cookies as we will allow because he is "Trying to piece his future together".

Overheard

Mommy: What do you want from Wendy's?

Aeden: A regular size cheeseburger and french fries with sodium chloride!

-------

Aeden: I had the best chips at after-care. They were sodium chloride and vinegar.
